Spread the Thunder!

February 4th, 2008

Fellow Vayniacs,

Happy Episode #400! Thanks to all of you for your comments to my first post. Hopefully we helped play a part in encouraging GV to continue the show well beyond #400.

So now that we’ve “Saved the Thunder”, it’s time to “Spread the Thunder”. Wanted to share with you my effort today.

Below is the letter that I wrote to the Paste Magazine team. In case you’re not familiar with Paste, it is a fantastic publication that you definitely should check out. It’s primarily a music magazine, but it also covers other “signs of life” in culture.

One of the sections I turn to first each month is “The Paste 7″. This a section where the Paste Magazine team can share with readers 7 of their favorite bits of whatever. This section is the perfect place to feature WLTV, and turn another whole audience of people on to GV and the Thunder Show.

Dear Paste,

I would venture to guess that there is a oenophile among you at the Paste office. In fact, there may even be a Vayniac. Even worse, this Vayniac may be a Lurker!

But fear not, this is no reason for concern. In case you are still unclear, I am writing about the Internets most passionate daily wine podcast, Wine Library TV, hosted by the #1 NY Jets fan in the country, Gary Vaynerchuk.

The mission of Wine Library TV is not that different from Paste Magazine. Just as Paste makes the ever-changing and somewhat subjective world of “Music, Film, and Culture” approachable and relevant to readers, WLTV has made the subject of wine approachable (and enjoyable) to thousands of new viewers.

Also in the same vein as Paste, WLTV brings viewers signs of life in the wine world. GV trumpets the cause of lesser known producers and varietals, encouraging the Vayniacs to try new things and embrace their palates. And in the process, he slaughters a few sacred cows, and breaks down some long-standing barriers.

If you haven’t seen an episode of WLTV, I would encourage you to do so. Today is the 400th episode (quite a run in the Internet world of viral videos and 15 seconds of YouTube fame). If you have seen WLTV and enjoy it as much as I do, I would encourage you to feature it in “The Paste 7″, and share this sign of life with your readers.

Best,

Michael

So, keep your eyes on Paste magazine! Hopefully, we’ll see WLTV featured in an upcoming issue. I look forward to hearing how you spread the thunder today.

Best,

MB Dallas

Save The Thunder

January 24th, 2008

Fellow Vayniacs,

As we approach Episode #400, we face the very real threat of WLTV ending. Gary has charged us with Saving the Thunder. So, here’s your chance…

What does Gary like more than seeing Vayniacs embrace their own palates and try new things? Here’s the very simple task: leave a comment below with tasting notes for a wine you recently tasted.

Include:

1 - Lookie-Look: Describe what you see.

2 - Sniffy-Sniff: What do you get on the nose? Cat food? Sweaty sock? Strawberry candy?

3 - Give it a whirl: How does it fit with your palate? Fruit bomb? Old world? Oak monster?

In honor of the 400th episode, let’s shoot for 400 comments!

You, with a little bit of me…

MB Dallas
